Dear Parents,
We hope you are enjoying your summer! As the next school year approaches, we wanted to share a little bit about the Live Art Studies at Oxrose. Like all subjects at Oxrose, art is not studied in isolation, but as part of the larger classical tradition. Artistic skills are important to many other areas of study, such as logic, science and history. Oxrose's art program begins with drawing as the foundation.
After mastering drawing fundamentals, they move on to color theory and paint, including watercolor, acrylic, and oil. In a live course, students all come together and work on their individual projects while the teacher moves among each student offering help and comments, drawing the class's attention to good elements, and teaching specific techniques. A progression of skills to master and mastery projects upon which to apply them give the course sequential structure. The year is culminated by a final project which brings together all of the skills learned in the year, followed by a virtual "Gallery Night" event where students show their work to parents and peers!
