"St. Jerome in His Study" by Albrecht Durer, 1514

Dear Students,

Greetings in Christ! Autumn draws nearer, and we begin to prepare for many feasts, fasts and holidays just around the corner. Perhaps we are already preparing for All Saints' Day with our family. We close out September with the feast of a Church Doctor, St. Jerome, the Saint who gave us the treasure of the Latin Vulgate Bible. St. Jerome inspires us to see the value in study and scholarship, as well as our beautiful tradition of Latin as the language of the Church. St. Jerome also befriended two other Church Fathers: Sts. Gregory Nazianzen and Gregory of Nyssa, showing us how "iron sharpens iron" among believers. Here are some ways you can honor St. Jerome. Older siblings can help your parents to make time for these things in your schedule. St. Jerome, patron of students, pray for us as we undertake the serious task of educating our children!

*Read Scripture daily. Reflect on the daily Mass readings or start your day with Psalms and Proverbs!

*Read about St. Jerome's life. Children will especially connect to his miraculous interactions with a lion.

*Pray a rosary for priests - in Latin together!
